Mt. Baker rises over the northern Cascades an hour and a half from Bellingham, drawing snow sport enthusiasts to some of the deepest snowfall in North America in winter and hikers to alpine meadows in summer. The homes below sit along the Mt. Baker Highway corridor, close enough for an early lift line or a full day on the trail without the drive feeling like the whole trip.
Where to stay near Mt. Baker
Each of these homes is managed by PNW Concierge, within a reasonable drive of the Mt. Baker Highway and the ski area.
Baker Bliss
The closest of our homes to the mountain itself, minutes from Glacier and about 25 minutes from the ski area. A cozy A-frame-style cabin with a private hot tub, built for snow season and summer hiking alike.
Cedar Brook Haven
A waterfront cabin on Lake Whatcom, about 40 minutes from the mountain. A good base for a group that wants lake days and mountain days on the same trip.
Raven’s Perch
A quiet lakefront spot on Cain Lake, roughly 45 minutes from the mountain, with kayaks and paddleboards on hand for the days you stay closer to home.
Moonwake
A covered lakeside deck and a peaceful stretch of Cain Lake shoreline, about 45 minutes from the mountain and the trailheads along the highway.
Two very different seasons
Winter here means Mt. Baker Ski Area, open roughly late November through April and home to the world record for snowfall in a single season: 1,140 inches, set in the winter of 1998–99. The drive up SR 542 climbs through old growth forest before opening onto the ski area itself, and a home lower in the corridor makes a good staging point for early lift lines without needing chains most days.
By July the snow has retreated, replaced by alpine meadows thick with wildflowers. Trails like Artist Point and Chain Lakes draw hikers from across the state, and the Nooksack River runs through the corridor for anyone who wants a slower day near the water instead.
Getting here
Mt. Baker sits about 90 minutes from Bellingham and just over 2 hours from Seattle via I-5 and SR 542. The highway is well maintained but does close at the top in true whiteout conditions, so winter guests should check WSDOT’s mountain pass report before heading up.

The details really mattered- a well-appointed kitchen, cozy blankets and pillows, flip flops and robes for the hot tub and beds and toys for furry friends. Nicely done!”
“This was a wonderful spot for a private couples getaway. Quiet, beautiful surroundings. House was cozy, kitchen was well equipped, and bed was very comfortable. We spent most of our time enjoying the deck with its propane fire table, sitting by the water, and steaming in the sauna. We liked being ~20min from town as it reduced the pressure to always go out, but was still close enough for an easy trip to a restaurant. If you’re looking for a quiet, secluded spot, you found it. No noise, everything worked and was in great condition. Would stay here again.”
